This is an early 80s Japanese Alvarez acoustic. It has an LR Baggs Element system which really works well.
The bridge on this guitar was starting to collapse the top and was sloping towards the sound hole. This was because of years of string pressure and I’m guessing exposure to some heat and cold. This guitar is not worth taking the top off and doing that type of repair so I used a JLD Bridge Doctor to support the bridge and slightly compensate for the slope.
This did require drilling a hole through the bridge and placing a permanent modification inside of the guitar. I did notice a small tone change but I cannot figure out what it is. I think it might be a little top end loss. It took about 30 minutes to repair and the guitar plays better than it did before.

This Wolf guitar came through for a setup and it was pretty cool. It’s a “Far East” guitar that is a copy of a Rickenbacker 330…maybe. After a setup it plays and sounds great. Here’s a short clip of me playing around with it over a loop made on a Ditto looper pedal.
When people think of classic cars, rock music isn’t too far behind it. The ’57 Chevy “green” also known in the guitar world as “seafoam green” is a classic looking tele. This tele has a classic sound, classic looks, and the specs you’d expect from a high end guitar.
If you’re interested in a classic sounding and styled tele-style guitar that’s made in the USA Contact Us. ($1,250)
One of my favorite guitar players is Eric Clapton and though I cannot play anything like him, his music grabs my attention. Specifically, I love the song “Layla”. The guitar he plays in this version is not “Blackie” but is another signature he has. The “Black Strat” I built was a homage to that guitar with a few adjustments.
Unlike the one he’s playing here, I went with “pearloid” dots to dress up the neck instead of the black dots, and I also threw in a master tone control instead of two tone controls with the bridge wired into the second tone control. The pickups are Gold Lace Sensor pickups are amazing and are quiet with a great strat bite. We finished the headstock with a silver embossed Rohrs logo.
If you want one like it, let us know and we’ll make one for you. Feel free to contact me as well, if you’d like to come play one. Priced at $1,350 with a hard shell case, made in the USA, this guitar is a great value! Contact us now.
Guitar Specs:
One of the biggest indicators of how a guitar plays is how a nut is setup and the material it is made from. There are many different options and they all have pros and cons. Most import guitars (and some American guitars) come with nuts made from plastic (ABS) material. Higher end electric guitars come with other typical options of Tusq (synthetic bone aka plastic), bone, LSR roller nut, brass, or a “locking nut”. All of these materials make a significant tonal difference and play into tuning stability.
If something is off on your guitar and you cannot put a finger on it, think about the nut. Is it filed properly? Is it the right material? It’s a pretty easy and inexpensive way to improve your guitars sound, tuning stability, and playability. Contact Us and we can adjust the existing nut or put a new one on for you.
A few years ago, Tommy Marx of Racketman and I collaborated on a guitar. He came to my house/shop and we did the final assembly and testing. It turned out great, and the guitar has been played in shows ever sense. If you’re getting ready to play shows this summer and fall, let me know what we can build for you. Check out the Copper Tele build here!

Check-out the upcoming tour starting this summer. Check out tour dates here.

Last week was a big week. We received some really nice kiln dried Alder to make 6 bodies. The lumber was provided by Kreis Sawmill in Marysville, OH. When it was received it was 2″ thick and 8 1/2″ wide. Though it was rough with still had bark in a few places, it was clear and light.
I cut it down to manageable size that would fit the CNC, joined it and glued it up to make a pretty nice blank. The end result was what you see below.
As I am not a CNC technician I’d like to thank John Overly for letting me use his shop and to Lenny Garrard for putting in the time with me to get the CNC setup and rolling. The end result was great. I’ll post some progress of the standing and finishing as things progress.
I’m not a gigging guy, but I do play at my church multiple times a week and “eat my own dog food. We had some great worship this weekend at The Awakening in Marysville, OH. I played the Blackie Strat most of the night and I never let me down. Switching was crisp, my tone was where I wanted it and life was good. The acoustic I’m using an Alvarez from the early 70’s that was made in Japan.
Here are some pictures from the two worship events.
